FishNet 4C Projects — Roads
Salmon and steelhead fisheries are affected by sediment run-off from
both dirt and paved roads. When sediment runs into the creek, it may be
deposited on top of spawning gravels or in pools, which can be
detrimental to spawning fish and their juvenile off-spring. Excessive
sedimentation is also harmful to aquatic insects and other stream life. It can also fill stream channels, increasing the risk of flooding.
Roads assessments within the FishNet region help to identify highest
priority sites for remediation, including
installing rolling dips,
out-sloping portions of roads, and installing additional cross drain
culverts to alleviate drainage problems from roadside ditches.
